Man’s Quest For Divinity
“We are now divine”
- Benny Hinn
“Man is like vanity”
- Psalm 144:4
Often, the atheist will ask: "If God is Perfect and All Powerful, why do we live in such a broken and imperfect world?" The atheist sees the brokenness as we do, but only as nature’s "survival of the fittest" ("might makes right"). The worldview of the evolutionist (which he would impose on the rest of us, if he could) is not encouraging, and very dangerous. As we shall see, evolutionary thinking has been responsible for much of history’s brutality and barbarism, and if not halted may someday rise up in full fury against the human race.
Is there a better explanation for our wretched predicament, one that accords with the facts of history and science? Indeed there is and the Bible is that source. Endless misfortune and sorrow is a result of sin, and it all started—"In the beginning.’"
“Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ’you shall not eat from it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; and ... By the sweat of your brow you will eat bread, till you return to the ground, because from it you were taken, for you are dust and to dust you shall return” (Gen. 3:17ff).
The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” (Gen. 2: 8-9).
(Comment: It would be unwise here to dismiss Genesis as mere myth. As we shall see, a freshly created earth, minus 6,000 years of corruption and decay, would have provided our first parents with a much different and better world than we have today.)
“Men lived like gods without sadness of heart… free from toil and grief, miserable age rested not on them... legs and arms never failing... for the fruitful earth… bore fruit abundantly without [limit]. They dwelt in ease and peace upon lands with many good things, rich in flocks and loved by the blessed gods…” 2
Historian Bancroft tells of a similar legend on the other side of the world by the Papago Indians of Arizona:
“Peace and happiness was in the world… all the seasons were warm,
and no one wore clothing… men shared a common tongue… and all were brothers.” 3
The Transylvanian gypsies recount a time when 'men lived great ages without sickness, when meat and fruits existed in great abundance and rivers flowed with milk and wine. Men and animals lived happy lives and were without fear of death.' 4
In India—thousands of miles to the east—we see the First and Perfect Age described in the Mahabharata Epic around 200 B.C:
“Men neither bought nor sold; there were no poor and no rich; there was no need to labour... no disease; there was no lessening with the years; no sorrow, no fear.... a time when all people were happy.” 5
Ovid then tells of a mysterious sudden shift of temperatures and seasons, which greatly reduced the earth’s bounty, causing the Golden Age to disappear almost without a trace. Warfare and crime soon followed.
“And ancient springtime, Jove [perhaps Jehovah?] abridged and made thereof anon. Four seasons: winter, summer, spring and harvest, off and on. First of all began the air with fervent heat to swelt; Then icicles hung roping down; then, the cold was felt, men ’gan to shroud themselves in houses... the thicks. And bushy queaches, hollow caves or hurdles made of sticks. Then were furrows drawn, and corn was cast in ground; the simple ox with sorry sighs to heavy yoke was bound. More hard of nature, somewhat bent to cruel wars and rage... Therein all mischief rushed forth... craft, treason, violence, envy, pride, and wicked lust to win.” 7
The Persians also have a tradition that Ahriman—the Prince of Darkness—corrupted the Golden Age, "with the grossest of deceptions;" 9 and by decieving them into believing he was their creator, they repeated the lie, causing depravity and vice to spread.10
This Prince of Persia sounds a lot like the Devil of the Bible, who beguiled Eve, then Adam, and then the whole world.
As deception and corruption increased, men began worshiping false gods:
“All godliness lies under foot... Men say that giants went about the realm of heaven to win, to place themselves as gods and lawless lords therein.”
Enraged by idolatry and arrogance, God sent a great Flood to destroy all life on earth:
“Jove standing up aloft... he made sea, land and heaven to quake.
I must destroy man and beast and all the mortal kind...
That all... shall have due punishment... that such destruction utterly on all mankind should fall.
With incessant showers, from heaven poured down... the mortal kind to drown.
As soon [with] his hands, the hanging clouds crushed, with rattling noise from heaven the rain full sadly gushed.
The rainbow... bedecked in sundry hue, to maintain moisture in the clouds, great waters thither drew.
Himself... did [give] the earth a blow that made it shake and waters... flow.
Men, beasts, trees... with their gods, were churches washed away...
No difference was between the sea and ground. For all was sea: no shore, nor landing to be found.
Some climbed up to tops of hills, and some rowed to and fro in boats, where they not long before to plough and cart did go. Over corn and tops of towns waves did overwhelm.
Sea-nymphs wandered under waves, the towns and groves [to] see. And dolphins played among the tops and boughs of every tree.
The fleeting fowls sought long for land to rest upon, into the sea with weary wings were driven to fall anon. Waves on highest tops of mountains did rebound, the greatest part of men were drowned. As such escaped the flood, forlorn with fasting overlong, did die for want of food.
He broke the clouds... and sturdy blasts chase the flood that earth might see the sky, and heaven the earth; the seas’ raging fury to cease.
Then hills did rise above the waves... the ground did seem to grow. And after long and tedious times the trees did show their tops.
The world restored again...” 11
The similarity of these legends with the book of Genesis is astounding and can hardly be coincidental:
1. Before The Fall -- No fear of death or divine punishment; moral innocence; no disease; no warfare; bountiful
food without toil or tilling; no fear of animals, nor fear of animals of humans.
2. Before And After The Fall -- Men made in God’s Image; life spans of hundreds of years; a single language;
youthful strength in old age; continuous spring time; corruption by the Prince of Darkness.
3. After The Fall -- Men planting and cultivating by the sweat of their brow; use of work animals; warfare;
corruption and baseness; giantism; servitude, slavery and oppression.
4. During The Flood -- worldwide inundation; heaven and earth quaking; destruction of all humans, land animals
and birds; water covering hills and mountains.
5. After The Flood -- Rain and subterranean up-gushing ceases; mountaintops appear; ground appears; earth
6. Post-Flood Conditions -- Rainbows; seasons of hot and cold; men living in thickets, caves and houses; many
languages; giants still roaming the earth.
“The words of the Lord are flawless” (Psalm 2:6).
Flawed Impressions Of Human Progress
“One of these days I'll be so complete I won't be a human.
I'll be a god.”
- John Denver, Newsweek 1976
2. Man has accumulated knowledge for thousands of years, giving our present generation advantages the ancients never had, such as modern scientific discoveries leading to state-of-the-art technology. In many ways, modern man stands on the shoulders of the ancients who accumulated this knowledge.
3. The ancient prophesy of Daniel 12:4, “knowledge shall increase” (i.e., accumulate12) in the latter days may be a reference to the sum total of accumulated knowledge today.
4. Antediluvian knowledge preserved by Noah through the Flood was well known to the ancients, and most likely kick-started science and technology after the deluge. Early records testify that pre-Flood knowledge did exist. For instance,
- Josephus (AD 37–100) mentions “discoveries, inventions and astronomical knowledge” preserved by Noah.13
- Berosos (3 BC) chronicles antediluvian King Xisuthros’ history of the world from Creation to the Flood.14
- One Babylonian King writes that he “loved to read the writings of the age before the Flood.” 15
- Ashurbanipal, the founder of the great Nineveh library, refers to “... inscriptions of the time before the Flood”
(Fraser, ‘Folklore in the Old Testament’).
- Three lists of antediluvian kings—Sumerian, Babylonian and Assyrian—testify that pre-Flood knowledge existed.16
It’s very likely that prior antediluvian knowledge kick-started the post-Flood world, giving it a semblance of progress.
In contrast to the above, incidents which may have slowed progress included:
- Man’s destruction of the great ancient libraries, which resulted in the loss of thousands of years of accumulated
- Widespread incest, resulting in genetic defects (physical and mental), diseases and disorders, especially among
the ruling classes (which continues today), which very likely retarded progress.
- The non-maturation (i.e., not ready for use) of today’s vast oil and coal deposits (a result of the Flood). Not until a
hundred years ago were these fuels generating electricity (i.e., alternating current) worldwide, making possible the
mass production of metals, plastics, paper, etc., commodities necessary for modern technology. Had the ancients
had these fuels, they would have used them.
- God’s confusion of languages after the Flood. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language, they
have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse
their language so they will not understand each other” (Gen. 11: 6-7). Here, we see two important things: God’s
Image reflected in man’s incredible abilities, and those abilities restrained by God Himself.
- The growth of petroleum, electric and steam power. Modern machinery and technology have made us physically
weaker, while TVs, calculators and computers have made us lazy and dumber. To confirm this, go to the links
- Six thousand years of sin, depravity and falleness, all of which have taken a horrendous toll on man and his world.
Could it be that history is not just a record of human achievement and enterprise, but also a tug-of-war between the "Image of God" reflected in man and the "Curse" that fights against it? As we have seen (and will see again a little later), the Bible has a fascinating way of clearing up many historical mysteries and paradoxes. Evolution, the enemy of God’s Truth, distorts history and, like sin, corrupts everything it touches. Remember too that man is arrogant and proud, and will never accept the concept of human devolution. He believes he is ever evolving and reaching toward the stars.
Evolving Toward Divinity
“God is the goal of evolution”
- M. Scott Peck, American Psychiatrist
A quick look at science and history reveals that evolution is not—and never has been—based on scientific observation. It is religion pure and simple, and like all religions, based on faith and hope. The idea that evolution began as a science 150 years ago with Charles Darwin is absurd.
(As a side note, however, Darwian ideas are oftentimes useful to the Ruling Classes, particularly when certain political / economic expedients are in order. For example, during the days of British colonialism, Darwin became an important asset to the British Crown and English bankers, mitigating any moral compunctions they may have had during their overseas savageries and thefts. Darwin also helped boost the opium profits of the British East India Company as they forced their way into China during the barbaric opium wars. The British believed that "might made right" and expedited that belief by the barrel of a cannon.)
Evolution actually preceded Darwin by about 2,600 years, most likely with Anaximander and Thales, who, as far as we know, were the first to teach it. Thales, for example, taught that all things,
“originated by natural processes...all matter is alive...all things [are] full of gods.” 18
If humans ascended from dirt and slime, as the early thinkers believed, how far could man go? Would they become gods? As incredible as it sounds, evolution toward godhood (apotheosis) was actually taught in the ancient Mystery Schools, and today forms the basis of virtually all secret societies—such as the Masonic Lodge—whose rosters often include church members, including elders, preachers and teachers.
The Eleusinians, one of these schools, persuaded men that they could be,
“elevated… above th e human sphere into the divine, and [be] assured of his redemption, by making
him a god…" 19
The Dionysians taught that,
“men became identified with… god himself. They became filled with his spirit and acquired divine powers.” 20
Apotheosis continued in Rome with the advent of Emperor worship. During the days of Julius Caesar the Senate struck coins with the words, “Caesar God,” and erected a statue of Caesar with the inscription: “He is a demigod.” Julius protested, “I am not Rex, but Caesar,” and had it removed.
American politicians are not quite as humble. It's not uncommon at all today to see on magazine covers and elsewhere, images of the Washington elite with "halos" surrounding their holy faces. Republicans seem to like them as much as Democrats. And interestingly enough, there has been no effort to have them removed. In his book, CODEX MAGICA, author Texe Marrs shows many politicians sporting dazzling halos, including George W. Bush, Tom DeLay and Richard Pearl.21 Sarah Palin’s aurora has appeared all over the world on the cover of Newsweek.22 President Obama’s can be seen at the ‘Center for Inquiry.’ 23 With such gods living among us, why bother with church.
New Ager Ken Wilbur once remarked,
"If men and women have ultimately come up from amoebas, then they are ultimately on their way
towards God." 27
A final quote—one very thought-provoking—comes from the very pages of the Bible:
“…your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God…”
- Gen. 3:5
How fascinating that it would be Satan, that great liar and deceiver of old, who would first utter this hellish lie to the world, first to Eve, then Adam, bringing on sin, the Great Fall, the Curse and the horror of death, which has continued for thousands of years. Intriguing, to say the least?
Evolution Or Devolution?
“The universe... does not live for itself; it gives life to others as it transforms.”
- Lao Tzu
“The heavens will vanish like smoke... its inhabitants will die like flies.”
Evolution, if scrutinized enough, will always contradict itself. The monstrosity of never-ending warfare, humanity's cruel savagery toward itself, proves it. War betrays the notion of man’s upward progression and goodness. Those who have fought wars tell us they turn good men—on all sides—into murdering animals. General Omar Bradley once opined that war was nothing but a “... wrenched debasement of all pretenses of civilization.
All clashes and conflicts, big and small, result from man’s greedy, fallen nature.
When one considers the high probability that some of these babies might have grown up to become prominent doctors (perhaps discovering a cure for cancer), leading scientists (possibly alleviating world hunger and poverty), top-end engineers (perhaps developing new forms of inexpensive energy and technology) and great inventors like Ford, Whitney, Bell, Tesla and Guttenberg (whose inventions have made our lives exceedingly pleasant and easy), can their massacres be called progress in any sense of the word? Consider too the loss of over fifty million taxpayers, workmen, technicians, soldiers and sailers etc., all necessary for a strong economy and national defense. Still more, how will Social Security and Medicare turn out in the future, which are already in trouble? Is it not true that more people must be "putting in" than "taking out"?
When abortion was legalized in 1973, we didn’t think it through did we? You can be sure of one thing: when the Magistrate of Heaven settles this score with America—WE WILL!!!
Evolutionists adamantly deny such knowledge could have existed at this early age, and consequently have no idea how they were drawn. (Perhaps this is why TV documentaries suggest aliens from outer space drew them from flying saucers.)
Professor Charles Hapgood, who for many years has meticulously analyzed these maps with his students, has estimated their probable age. He writes,
“… the ancient voyage to the Princess Martha Coast… may have been made as recently as about 1,000 B.C. While this may go a little way to relieve the historian of the problem of accounting for the mapping of that particular coast, it does nothing to help him in the Ross Sea area, for there it seems that the mapping would have had to have been done at least 6,000 years ago.” 31
6,000 years ago? According to evolutionists, these were the days of hunter-gatherers who had not yet fashioned simple tools. Did tribes of bumbling, half-evolved brutes, with no stone or copper tools, construct great sea faring vessels, navigate all over the world, and with mathematical acumen, survey and map the coasts of North and South America and Antarctica? The idea is preposterous!
And what about the many ancient engineering and architectural wonders seen throughout the world, supposedly built with no advanced technology or machinery. Baffled engineers scratch their heads, admitting they would be hard pressed to duplicate such marvels today. Some of them, they say, would be impossible.
- The oldest metallurgical factory known to man, discovered near Mt. Ararat in Turkey (the resting place of Noah’s
Ark). The site reveals as many as 200 furnaces which produced weapons and ornaments from manganese, gold, tin,
iron, copper, lead and zinc. Some are of alloy composition. The furnaces date to around 4,500 BC (right after the
- Small metallic tweezers dating 3,000 years.
- Metallic objects in Egypt dating 4,000 years, with evidence of ‘electroplating.’
- 2,000 year-old metal swords from China, with no signs of rust or corrosion.
- An intricate gold chain discovered in coal dating one hundred million years (i.e., according to evolutionary time, 97
million years before man started evolving).
- A gold thread in granite dating 60 million years.
- A small metallic cube (nickel and steel alloy) taken from an Austrian coal bed (pre-Flood) showing marks of
- A metal hammer (with no rust) discovered in solid rock dating 135 million years. Battelle Labs analyzed it and found
it contained chlorine but no carbon, a requisite for steel hardening. Metallurgists conclude it could not have been
produced under present atmospheric conditions (very likely pointing to the pre-Flood world). Some have suggested
aliens from outer space left it behind.
- An elaborate metallic vase blasted out of solid rock in Massachusetts (Scientific American, 1851). The vase is made
from an alloy of silver and possibly zinc. The sides contain intricate figures of flowers magnificently inlaid with pure
silver; and the artwork, according to the article, is ‘exquisite.’ The rock containing it was so old that the editor of
Scientific American said it must have been made by Tubal-cain (the eighth from Adam), the founder of metallurgy:
Today, after thousands of years of sin, corruption and decay, the Darwinian idol has turned our world upside down. History has become a mangled web of confusion and nonsense and may never be unraveled. The Bible, as you can see, untangles the distant past, clears up the present and gives hope for the future.
